Date Established: 1997
Address: 1 Teck Whye Crescent, Singapore (688847)
Division: Chua Chu Kang
The History:
In the 1960s, the mosque was built on a hill which was surrounded by vast vegetable lands for farming at Chua Chu Kang Road together with the work of the Muslim community there and also Minister of State, late Dr Haji Yaacob Mohamed. The mosque was previously named Masjid Jamek.
Because the mosque was on a hill and being located at a T-junction road which was always affected by heavy traffic conditions, it was inaccessible.
Present
It is now named Masjid Al-Khair. The name of the mosque changed in 1963 and it was derived from the late Syed Mohammed Salim Al-Attas. It moved in to Teck Whye Crescent in the year 1995 and costed about S$6 million to built. The present day conditions of the mosque has much improved. It is now on solid and level ground which makes the journey there easier; it is now located at a four-track-junction road; and it is now surrounded by HDB flats, thus making it more accessible to the neighborhood which encourages more frequent visits to the mosque by their worshippers.
